Jack Flaherty improved to 7-and-0 after tossing six scoreless innings in the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 win against the Brewers in Milwaukee. Nolan Arenado’s first-inning RBI single is all St. Louis needed to take two of three in the series. The Cardinals visit the San Diego Padres tonight.

The Atlanta Braves were swept by the Toronto Blue Jays in an 8-4 loss Thursday. Toronto put up four runs in the ninth inning to rally past Atlanta once again as the Blue Jays beat the Braves for the sixth time overall this season. Atlanta opens a three-game road series tonight against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Following an off day, the Chicago Cubs continue Interleague play opening a weekend series tonight at the Detroit Tigers.

The New York Yankees say that shortstop Gleyber Torres has tested positive for COVID-19. Torres was held out of Wednesday’s game as a precaution, given seven coaches and staff members had tested positive, and his results were pending. He previously dealt with a coronavirus diagnosis, and has been vaccinated, making this another “breakthrough” case. It’s not clear if Torres is showing symptoms, and he remains in quarantine.
