One man was flown to an Evansville hospital and another was injured in a single-vehicle collision in Caldwell County Monday.

According to a news release, deputies with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the one mile marker of Highway 903 around 1:40 p.m. for reports of a single-vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle operated by 19-year old Jose Mijes of Princeton was heading south bound when he advised he swerved to miss an oncoming north bound vehicle close to the center line.

His right tires dropped off the shoulder, and he over-corrected, causing the vehicle to cross the lanes multiple times before striking the face of a concrete bridge, making the vehicle overturn.

Mijes was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year old Daniel Trujillo of Chicago, had to be extricated from the vehicle and then was taken by helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
