Suspect in East Ninth Street gas station shooting apprehended

The Hopkinsville Police Department has arrested the suspect charged in relation to a shooting that occurred in March at an East Ninth Street gas station.

Twenty-three year old Jaylynn Cheatham was apprehended Friday afternoon and taken to the Christian County Jail. He is facing charges of first-degree assault and wanton endangerment, accused of shooting 20-year old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville and 38-year old Bryan Jones of Cadiz.  He’s also facing charges related to theft of a vehicle that occurred during the same incident.

As previously reported, officers responded to shots fired at the gas station at the intersection of Ninth and Campbell a few minutes before 9:30 p.m. and found Quarles with gunshot wounds and flown to Skyline Medical Center—Jones arrived by private vehicle at a local hospital later, where he was treated and released.

Windows of the gas station were shot out and 21 bullet fragments were recovered by investigators.

A photo of the suspect will be posted as it becomes available
