Hot Rods GM says it’s “kinda a miracle” to be playing this season

Bowling Green Hot Rods general manager Eric Leach tells the Bowling Green Daily News it was “kind of a miracle” that they were able to keep a Major League Baseball affiliation this season. Major League Baseball cut ties with 43 minor league baseball teams-including Lexington-heading into this season with a number of the markets much larger than Bowling Green.

MLB is mandating some stadium improvements as part of the deal. They include things like expanded training areas for players, new stadium lights, locker room improvements and even small items like dugout flooring. It’s not known how much the improvements will cost but must be done by the end of 2022. Bowling Green begins play in the MLB’s High A League next month. They are affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays.
