Christian Fiscal Court applying for Ruff Park upgrades, jail offering vaccines to inmates

Christian Fiscal Court heard about vaccination efforts at the jail Tuesday morning and approved an application for additional grant funds to improve Ruff Park.

Jailer Brad Boyd says he’s working with the Christian County Health Department and they will have staff there Wednesday of next week to administer vaccines to approximately 150 inmates who signed up to receive a shot.

He says the Moderna will be used and they will have additional clinics in the future if more inmates decide to take the vaccine. Boyd says approximately a third of the jail staff opted to be vaccinated earlier this year.

Meanwhile, magistrates approved an application for up to $250,000 in grant money that PADD Associate Director Amy Frogue says can be used for upgrades at Ruff Park.

The county would be required to match the funds, if the application is successful, but it could use in-kind labor and materials as part or all of the match.

Christian County Regional Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says they had another good month, finding homes for nearly as many animals as were brought in.

A resolution was approved by magistrates to use state discretionary funding that Squire Darrell Gustafson says will be used to construct a 1,000 ft. roadway that will be used as a second entrance into the James E. Bruce Convention Center lot, assuming all easements are worked out and finalized.

In other action, Judge-Executive Steve Tribble appointed local realtor Rachel Diuguid Smith to the Assessment Board of Appeals.
