SPORTS BRIEFS 4/27/21

NBA

Ja Morant puts in the work, but the rest of his team couldn’t keep up as the Memphis Grizzlies lost on the road to the Denver Nuggets, 120-96. Memphis shot a jarring 4-32 from three-point-land as Morant scored 27 points while adding six rebounds and six assists. Next up for the Grizzlies is quick two-game home stand against Portland and Orlando this week.

NHL

Nick Cousins was persistent on offense as he and three other teammates lit the lamp as the Nashville Predators struck down the visiting Florida Panthers 4-1. Yakov Trenin also found the back of the net. The teams conclude the series tonight at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.

NASCAR

NASCAR is opening an investigation into what caused Joey Logano to take off and flip during a crash at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. Though the 2018 Cup Series champion walked away unharmed, NASCAR senior vice president of competition Scott Miller said Monday that they are continuing to work on preventing future occurrences.
Logano flipped following contact between Ricky Stenhouse and Denny Hamlin, which sent Hamlin into Logano, lifting him off the ground and over Bubba Wallace. Logano was frustrated as the roof of his car was pressed against his helmet and had Wallace hit Logano, it could have produced a similar result to the incident that hospitalized Ryan Newman on the final lap of the 2020 Daytona 500.
