Christian County Public School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel says interest is high for the Summer Learning Institute and they’re doing what they can to prepare for end-of-year assessments.
Superintendent Bentzel says they’ve had over 1,000 applications for students to participate in the Summer Learning Institute, all in the hope of either making up lost learning caused by the pandemic or for students who just want a boost heading into next year.
They’re not sure what state assessments will take place this year, but in the meantime he says they’re getting students ready for testing and education milestones.
Legislation passed this year by the Kentucky General Assembly would allow a student to ‘do-over’ the school year, including seniors, and Bentzel says they’re still working to determine what that year would look like if they do choose to take that option.
Bentzel says they’re glad to see that it seems the spike in COVID-19 cases in the district caused by Spring Break seems to be on the decline, with active in-person student cases at 15, three staff cases, three in the Virtual Learning Academy and 76 close contact quarantines.
