COVID-19 protocols have postponed trial for three men charged with robbery and drug-related charges and their attorneys have some additional time to negotiate with the Commonwealth toward a possible resolution.
A female victim called Hopkinsville Police last March and told officers she had been held against her will in a home on Moores Drive for approximately two hours and robbed by three men.
Thirty-four-year-old Darius Johnson of Oak Grove, 24-year old Justice Wofford and 26-year old Spencer Clark were allegedly armed with guns and threatened to hurt the victim. One of the men allegedly put a knife to the victim’s stomach and forced her into a back bed room, where he reportedly made her electronically transfer money to his account.
The victim was reportedly struck multiple times in the face. A search of the residence allegedly revealed 178 grams of an unknown white substance, a small baggie of cocaine, marijuana and multiple items of drug paraphernalia.
There were five children under the age of seven in the residence at the time the incident occurred, according to police.
Trials cannot resume in Kentucky until at least June 1 due to COVID protocols established by Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton, so attorneys David Rye, Doug Moore and Michael Thompson were all agreeable with Judge John Atkins suggestion to continue the matter for four weeks to give them time to talk about a potential resolution with their clients and the Commonwealth.
Johnson and Wofford are charged with first-degree robbery, kidnapping, first-degree wanton endangerment, trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Clark is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Clark and Johnson are out on bond, while Wofford was arrested again Wednesday on a contempt of court warrant and is lodged in the Christian County Jail.
