Sanctuary, Inc. hosting events during Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in April

April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, and Sanctuary, Inc. is hosting a month full of events and fundraisers to spread the word.

According to a news release, they are focusing on reminding members of the community about the importance of consent—by highlighting the importance of consent and reminding individuals to listen to and respecting an individual’s response, they hope that the number of people being hurt by sexual assault will decrease.

Things kick-off on April 6 with Wear Teal Day, with teal being the official color of sexual assault awareness and prevention.  Then on April 23 is the Chalk the Walk event, where individuals and business are invited to draw inspiring messages on sidewalks to show support to survivors of sexual assault.

That’s followed by Denim Day on April 28, where people are asked to wear jeans in remembrance of those who have been assaulted and had what they were wearing blamed for the crime. There will be multiple fundraisers through the month, including at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company, HopTown Nutrition and Sanctuary, Inc. itself will be selling shirts.
