Two shot at East Ninth St. gas station Saturday night, suspect sought

Two people were shot outside of the Marathon gas station on East Ninth Street in Hopkinsville Saturday night and a named suspect is sought.

Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Shannon Wells says officers responded to shots fired at the gas station at the intersection of Ninth and Campbell a few minutes before 9:30 p.m. and found 20-year old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville with gunshot wounds.

Quarles remained in a Nashville hospital Sunday morning. A second victim, 38-year old Bryan Jones of Cadiz, arrived by private vehicle at a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

HPD is asking for the public’s help to locate 21-year old Jaylynn Cheatham, who is sought for first-degree assault and wanton endangerment in connection with the incident. Cheatham also stole a vehicle as he fled the scene, according to the police report.

Windows of the gas station were shot out and 21 bullet fragments were recovered by investigators.

Anyone with information on Cheatham’s whereabouts should call HPD at 270-890-1300.
