SPORTS UPDATE 3/22/21

College Basketball

The Oregon Ducks are moving on to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen after beating 2nd seeded Iowa 95-80 in West Region action today. Senior guard Chris Duarte led the way with 23 points and seven assists. Iowa center Luka Garza had 36 points and nine rebounds for the Hawkeyes in the loss. The Ducks now await the winner of the game between top seed Michigan and LSU.

College Football

The University of North Carolina today announced a three year contract extension for head coach Mack Brown and his assistants. According to a news release from the school, Brown’s extension maintains the terms of the original agreement and keeps the length of Brown’s contract at five years, through the 2025 season. The contracts of the assistant coaches are now all three-year deals.

NFL

The NFL announced today this year’s NFL Draft in Cleveland will have a select number of prospects, fans and media in attendance. The event will take place at several iconic locations from April 29th through May 1st.

NBA

Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor, who followed a spectacular playing career with the Los Angeles Lakers by becoming an executive for the Los Angeles Clippers, died today at age 86. Baylor was an 11-time All-Star and 10-time All-NBA selection during his 14 seasons with the Lakers from 1958 to 1971. He was the 1958-59 Rookie of the Year. He averaged a double-double for his career, posting 27.4 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.
