Ky. gains 731 COVID-19 cases, along with 25 new deaths

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reported 731 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, along with a positivity rate of 3.40 percent.

According to a news release, he also reported 25 new deaths along with 166 backlogged COVID deaths, which is part of the 604 total that were discovered during a recent audit of the reporting system. That makes the death toll in the Commonwealth 5,695 since the pandemic began.

As vaccines continue to be distributed, Governor Beshear says, “With now more than 1 million Kentuckians being vaccinated, our shot of hope has proven to be our shot of certainty for ending this pandemic. We still need everyone to continue to mask up, practice social distancing, wash your hands and get vaccinated when it’s your turn.”

There are currently 463 individuals in the hospital due to coronavirus, 101 currently in the ICU and 60 on a ventilator.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 1,997 new COVID-19 cases there, along with 28 new deaths—the positivity rate is now 6.07 percent.
