Kentucky administered its one millionth COVID-19 Monday, and Governor Andy Beshear announced a ninth straight week of lower reported cases.
Governor Beshear reported 396 new cases, along with a positivity rate of 3.99 percent, which was only a very slight decrease, with the governor saying that may show a plateauing of coronavirus cases. He says it is amazing that a year ago they were reporting the first cases, and now over a Kentuckians have been vaccinated, and that number is growing every day.
The governor says that while not as steep as previous weeks, this was the ninth week in a row where numbers continued to decline overall in the state.
He announced that licensed childcare facilities may now return to pre-pandemic class sizes, but staff and caretakers are encouraged to get the vaccine if possible, and keep up those Healthy at School guidelines.
Kentucky passed another grim milestone Monday, when the governor reported 23 new deaths, bring the death toll up to 5,005 since the pandemic began. On an incidence rate map that now looks very different compared to several weeks ago, only eight counties are labeled as ‘red’, including Lyon County.
