Severe weather is possible in Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee Wednesday and Wednesday night and Kentucky will go through with its rescheduled statewide tornado drill Tuesday morning.
The current forecast is for the worst of the severe weather mid-week to be in Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Rick Shanklin with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the exact track of a warm front moving through the region will determine the local severe threat and heavy rain will also be possible.
Listeners to WHOP will hear the Emergency Alert System activate at about 9:15 Tuesday morning for the statewide tornado drill. Many communities will test their tornado sirens and NOAA weather radios will also activate.
Most importantly, Shanklin says it’s an occasion for families to go over their plans for what to do in the event of an actual tornado.
The long-term outlook for March 22 through the 28th calls for normal temperatures—which should top out at about 60—and slightly above normal precipitation.
