Indian Hills principal retiring at end of school year

Indian Hills Elementary School Principal Tonya Oakley has announced she’ll retire at the end of the school year.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel says, “Ms. Oakley epitomizes true leadership. Her impact and devotion to public education is felt daily by her teachers and students.”

Oakley began teaching her teaching career in 1994 at Trigg County Elementary School before teaching at Millbrooke Elementary School. Since then, she has held positions in Christian County as curriculum specialist, instructional behavior coach, and Department of Defense Education grant facilitator.

She was named principal at Indian Hills Elementary School in 2015 and serves as an adjunct teacher at Murray State in the Elementary Education Department.

Oakley referred to her favorite quote from Abraham Maslow saying, “You can either step forward into growth, or you can step backward into safety. I always have and always will continue to step forward and grow myself.  It’s no fun staying stagnant and playing it safe!”
