Kentucky Senate passes bill to study racial gaps

Legislation to address racial inequalities and focus on opportunities was approved Wednesday by the Kentucky Senate.

Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County was one of the bill’s sponsors and says Senate Bill 10 would appoint a committee to look at racial disparities or gaps in Kentucky.

He says it will then be that committee’s duty to find meaningful ways the General Assembly can address those issues.

Westerfield acknowledges there are some places the committee or General Assembly may not be able to help, but it’s important to bring people together to have the conversations.

Senate Bill 10 passed on a 35-1 vote and now heads to the House.
