The COVID-19 positivity rate in Kentucky has dropped below six percent for the first time since October, with Governor Andy Beshear reporting 1,306 new cases Wednesday.
The rate is now at 5.9 percent and has been in decline for over six weeks now, with Governor Beshear saying with the efficient rollout of vaccines, the state is set to defeat the pandemic this year, he just asks for everyone to keep up their mitigation efforts a little longer.
Along with those 1,306 new cases, he also reported 51 new deaths, putting the death toll at 4,527—there are currently 883 Kentuckians in the hospital due to the virus, there are 228 in the ICU and 112 individuals are on a ventilator.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported 1,631 new cases there, along with 68 new deaths—the positivity rate in the Volunteer State is now at 7.38 percent.
