Todd County starting 1C vaccinations a week early Wednesday

There were three new cases of COVID-19 reported Tuesday in Todd County and the health department there is moving to vaccine Phase 1C a little early.

Public Health Director Jen Harris says due to low turnout at Tuesday’s drive-thru vaccination clinic for individuals 70 and older, they will open vaccinations Wednesday to residents 60 and older or those with a chronic health condition approved by the CDC.

Registration will begin at noon in the old Ardco parking lot next to Dairy Queen in Elkton and vaccinations will begin at 1 p.m. The shots will be administered on a first come, first serve basis.

Health conditions that qualify include cancer, chronic kidney disease, CPOD, Down Syndrome, heart conditions, a compromised immune system, obesity, pregnancy, sickle cell disease and Type 2 Diabetes.

The three new cases are all adults, including one connected to a congregate setting and another who is hospitalized.

Four of Todd County’s 14 active cases are hospitalized and 10 are healing at home.

Meanwhile, Trigg County reported only one new case Tuesday—a 21-year old male who is isolating at home. Trigg County is yellow on the COVID incidence rate map and has reported 1,063 total cases.
