Pennyrile Electric crews providing mutual aid to hard-hit eastern Kentucky

Line technicians from Pennryile Electric have mobilized to provide mutual aid to cooperatives in other parts of Kentucky who were hit hard in recent days by ice storms.

Brent Gilkey says one crew is already assisting Grayson Rural Electric and another deployed Friday for Big Sandy Rural Electric.

Pennyrile crews are joining 775 workers from other cooperatives in Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama and Indiana who are working to restore power to the 130,000 Kentuckians who were in the dark at some point during the winter storms.

Gilkey says Pennyrile Electric knows from experience how important mutual aid from other cooperatives is during a response to a disaster.

The Pennyrile Electric crews could be deployed as long as two weeks to help restore power to everyone in eastern Kentucky.
