Major roadways improving, secondary routes still treacherous

There’s no more snow, ice or sleet in the weather forecast, but accumulations left over from three storms in eight days will still be causing some travel difficulties for a little while.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet trucks had gotten I-24 and the Pennyrile Parkway mostly clear as of mid-morning Thursday. Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Miller says state, county and city crews have been hard at work, but secondary routes remain the main trouble spots.

Deputy Miller says if you must travel, slow down and use extra caution.

Christian, Trigg, Hopkins and Montgomery County Schools are closed to in person instruction again Friday, in addition to Heritage Christian Academy, UHA, Dawson Springs Independent Schools and Hopkinsville Community College.

Road conditions should improve drastically over the weekend, with temperatures expected to get above freezing Saturday and Sunday.
