The Big Read is making its return to Hopkinsville and Christian County this year, and the majority of the initiative will be virtual.
Pennyroyal Arts Council Director Margaret Prim appeared via phone on WHOP Tuesday morning and says this year’s book, Circe by Madeline Miller, is a fantasy novel that follows the daughter of the god Helios and her journey in the mortal world. The Big Read kicks off Thursday with a virtual meeting with the author at 6 p.m.—people can register on the Pennyroyal Arts Council website.
Prim says most events will take place in a virtual format, to make sure people are staying healthy in the midst of the ongoing worldwide pandemic.
There will be activities planned throughout the program period, including with the Arts Council, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, Museums of Historic Hopkinsville- Christian County, Christian County Public Schools, Hopkinsville Community College and more.
The first 100 registered participants in the virtual kickoff event will receive a free copy of the book, sponsored by Planters Bank.
