Secondary routes still slick and hazardous, cold and more snow in forecast

You’ll probably encounter mostly dry pavement on major state and federal highways this morning, but conditions will likely be very different if you’re driving on back roads and lesser-traveled city streets.

Dispatchers in Christian, Todd and Trigg counties all reported those secondary routes to be icy and hazardous Friday morning and several motorists slid off the road in the region overnight.

Trigg County Dispatch says there were multiple vehicles that slid off the ramps at US 68 and I-24 during the overnight hours, warning motorists to slow down in that interchange.

There could be some limited melting today with temperatures to possibly creep just above freezing under cloudy skies, but whatever melts will re-freeze again tonight with temperatures dipping into the 20’s and we won’t see it above freezing again until the middle of next week at the earliest.

A wind chill advisory will be possible this weekend with bitter cold air moving in and the National Weather Service in Paducah is projecting accumulating snowfall Monday and Monday night and sometime Wednesday or Thursday.
