The Cincinnati Reds are picking up former Chicago Cubs infielder Max Schrock off waivers and signing former Miami Marlins pitcher Braden Shipley. The team announced yesterday it had added Schrock to the 40-man roster and agreed to a Minor League deal with Shipley with a Spring Training invite. Schrock has bounced around between several clubs and has appeared in only eleven MLB games. Shipley hasn’t pitched in the Majors since 2018 and is 4-and-6 with a five-point-four-nine ERA in 26 games.
The St. Louis Cardinals are adding depth to their bullpen by trading for Johan Quezada. The six-foot-nine hard-throwing right-hander was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash. The 26-year-old made his Major League debut as a Marlin in 2020, conceding three runs over three relief appearances.
