The ice storm warning for western Kentucky and northern middle Tennessee remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday and significant impacts are expected.
After some travel impacts north and west of Hopkinsville Wednesday morning, Rick Shanklin with the National Weather Service in Paducah says the main event in the southern Pennyrile region will be during the evening, overnight and early morning hours.
The high temperature Thursday won’t get above freezing, so ice accumulations of up to a half-inch are likely to stick around for at least 24 hours.
Shanklin says conditions could be particularly dangerous during the Thursday morning commute.
Travel issues are almost certain and scattered power outages are very much a possibility.
Shanklin says a wind chill advisory will likely be required this weekend when temperatures will top out in the 20’s and dip into the single-digits. Wintry precipitation will also be possible again by Monday, though many uncertainties remain.
