Pennyrile Electric prepared to respond if ice causes outages

Pennyrile Electric is prepared to respond if the winter storm in the forecast this week causes any power outages in the region.

Brent Gilkey says they have an emergency response plan ready and reviewed.

He says problems usually begin when at least a quarter-inch of ice has accumulated on lines and trees.

Gilkey says be sure to call or text Pennyrile if you have an outage.

Motorists and those on foot should never approach a downed line, as any contact with a line could be fatal.

This storm is not expected to come anywhere close to the 1994 or 2009 events, when one to two inches of ice accumulated on trees and power lines.
