Buccaneers win Super Bowl 55

Tom Brady threw three touchdown passes as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers blasted the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl 55 in Tampa. He found former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski twice in the first half for scores. It’s the seventh Super Bowl title for Brady and the second for the Bucs’ franchise. Leonard Fournette rushed for 89 yards, including a 27-yard TD for Tampa Bay. Patrick Mahomes threw for 270 yards and two interceptions as Kansas City failed to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Travis Kelce had 133 receiving yards in the loss.

Two Buccaneer assistant coaches with local ties were involved in Sunday’s win. Former Christian County standout Keith Tandy-who actually played for the Bucs in his NFL career-and former Austin Peay head coach Rick Christophel are on Bruce Arians’ staff.

Bruce Arians is finally a Super Bowl champion as head coach. In his second season with Tampa Bay, Arians became the oldest head coach in history to win a Super Bowl at age 68. The Patriots’ Bill Belichick was 66 when New England beat the Rams two years ago. Arians had previously won two Super Bowls as an assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
