COVID-19 vaccine rollout underway for CCPS staff

Christian County Public School staff and teachers who signed up are starting to get their vaccines against COVID-19, which Superintendent Chris Bentzel says will pave the way for school to get back to normal.

Superintendent Bentzel was one of around 220 staff members who received the vaccine Tuesday, and he says in the next few days even more will receive their first round, with approximately 800 set to get it in total.

He says he’s thankful to the Christian County Health Department for working to get the vaccine to the district as soon as possible, calling it a game changer.  He says the numbers are looking up as well, so he’s hopeful they’ll be able to return to in-person learning next week.

Those vaccines are available to anyone who wants it in the school system, not just teachers—also, anyone who is hired on a later day will still be eligible to get the shot.

Bentzel says they’ll have an update Friday about whether they will return in-person, with the hope of returning on Tuesday, January 19, the day after Martin Luther King Day.
