Hopkinsville man charged with assaulting police officers

A Hopkinsville man was arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers who were at his home looking for a different person Monday night.

Hopkinsville police went to a North Main Street apartment looking to serve a mental health warrant on a different man when they made contact with 36-year old Brandon Smith, according to an arrest citation, which says Smith refused to open the door or to identify himself.

The key holder was called to the scene and Smith allegedly swung a metal cable and hit two officers as the door was opened.

A taser was used to take Smith into custody and he was charged with two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer.
