Kentucky reports record high new COVID cases

Kentucky reported a record 5,742 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, in addition to 34 more deaths.

Governor Andy Beshear said in a news release, “Today’s numbers show how critically important a centralized effort and response is to defeating this virus.”

The commonwealth’s positivity rate was 11.7 percent—the highest it’s been since May 5—and the 34 new fatalities bring Kentucky’s death toll to 2,806.

There are 1,778 Kentuckians hospitalized with the virus, 428 in an ICU and 244 on a ventilator.

Christian and all surrounding Kentucky counties remain red on the state incidence rate map.

Tennessee noted another 7,588 new cases and 114 more deaths. The Volunteer State’s positivity rate is 20.28 percent and 3,332 Tennesseans are in the hospital.
