Gunshots were fired at a Hopkinsville police officer during one of the first calls for service of 2021.
Chief Clayton Sumner says officers were responding to a call of shots fired in the area of the 200 block of West 13th Street a few minutes after midnight and saw a man with a gun standing on the front porch of a home.
The man reportedly took off running and fired two shots, with one bullet going through a civilian vehicle and then striking the rear of an unmarked HPD vehicle.
Chief Sumner says the officer was just about to exit the automobile when the shots were fired and was not injured.
A Christian County Sheriff’s Office K9 was called to the scene to help search for a suspect, but was not successful.
Anyone with information on the incident should call HPD at 270-890-1300.
