Local doctor arrested for allegedly impersonating police officer

A local doctor was arrested Christmas Eve for allegedly impersonating a police officer in Trigg County.

Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree investigated after receiving complaints that 58-year old Dr. Travis Calhoun of Cadiz was following a Cadiz woman. He allegedly told her he was a police officer and threatened to detain her.

Dr. Calhoun allegedly told Sheriff Acree that he was a deputy and produced a Todd County Jail ID and badge, but further investigation determined he had only previously been a physician at the Todd County Jail until  June of this year when his employment was ended. Dr. Calhoun was not a Todd County deputy jailer.

Dr. Calhoun was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer, which is a felony.

Todd County Jailer Jeff Penick says Dr. Calhoun’s previous capacity at the jail was an independent medical contractor and that he never relinquished his badge and ID when his contract was terminated, effective June 30.

He’s unsure when Dr. Calhoun was issued the badge and ID, but says it was before his term began in January 2019.
