Kentucky announces 3,388 new COVID cases, 27 more deaths

Governor Andy Beshear believes mitigation efforts have stopped the escalation of COVID-19 cases across Kentucky as he announced 3,388 new cases and 27 more deaths Saturday.

The positivity rate has also remained mostly steady and was 8.58 percent Saturday. There are 1,655 Kentuckians hospitalized with the virus, 438 are in the ICU and 253 are on a ventilator.

Governor Beshear says, “What we are seeing is that the measures we have taken are working. We have stopped the increase in cases, which we knew we had to do before we can start to decrease those numbers. Let’s all commit to doing what we know is right – wearing masks, social distancing, washing our hands and limiting our holiday gatherings – so we can beat this virus once and for good.”

Kentucky’s death toll now stands at 2,371 and an 89-year old Webster County woman is among the latest fatalities.

Eight of nine Pennyrile counties remain red on the state incidence rate map, with Crittenden the only exception, as it is orange.
