Ky. gains 3,481 new COVID-19, data suggests possible slowing of escalation

For the sixth day in a row, Kentucky’s positivity rate for COVID-19 has dropped, and Governor Andy Beshear reported 3,481 new cases Wednesday.

Governor Beshear says while that number is still much too high, they are seeing progress thanks to ongoing sacrifices by Kentuckians along with recent actions to slow the spread of the virus. The positivity rate is now at 9.23 percent and the governor says there are some promising trends in the data, potentially showing even a plateauing of new cases.

Governor Beshear pushed for everyone to just hold out a little longer on mask wearing and other measures, as vaccines could possibly right around the corner.

Sixteen more Kentuckians have passed away in relation to COVID-19, including a 69-year-old woman from Livingston County, putting the death toll at 2,118.

Around 4,069 applications have been filed for the Team Kentucky Food and Beverage Relief Fund, requesting $36.4 million in assistance. Already, $17.5 million has been approved for distribution and applications are still being accepted.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 8,213 new cases of coronavirus, along with 62 new deaths—approximately 2,605 Tennesseans are in the hospital and the positivity rate in the Volunteer State is 18.15 percent.
