Kentucky surpasses 200,000 total COVID cases since beginning of pandemic

Kentucky has now surpassed 200,000 total coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, as the governor announced 2,567 Sunday, in addition to 10 more deaths.

Governor Andy Beshear said, “While this is our highest week ever, the rate of growth does appear to be slowing. In other words, our increase from the last couple of weeks is less than what we have been seeing. Certainly, our hope is that we are slowing down this train and are moving at least to a new plateau.”

The state’s positivity rate is 9.75 percent, 1,673 Kentuckians are hospitalized, 401 are in the ICU and 214 are on a ventilator. Christian, Todd and Trigg remain red on the state incidence rate map, as does every western Kentucky county except Crittenden.

The governor will hold a wreath-laying ceremony Monday afternoon to remember the 2,072 Kentuckians who have died with the virus.

Tennessee reported 3,072 more cases and 38 more deaths Sunday. The Volunteer State has a positivity rate of 16.49 percent and 2,504 Tennesseans are in the hospital.
