HCA decides to stick with virtual instruction for now

Heritage Christian Academy has a change of plans and will remain with virtual instruction for now.

The private school had announced last week it would resume in-person instruction Monday in defiance of Governor Andy Beshear’s pandemic mitigation orders, hoping the U.S. Supreme Court would rule in favor of Attorney General Daniel Cameron and a group of Christian schools who have contended the order goes against the freedom to freely practice religion.

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals recently upheld Governor Beshear’s mandate, saying his order did not target religious freedoms because it applied to all K-12 schools, private and public.

The Supreme Court has not said yet if it will take up the case or let the Court of Appeals decision stand.

HCA Healthy at School Officer Stephanie Boyd says, “After seeking legal counsel from multiple sources, the board decided it was in the best interest for the school to go virtual until a verdict is reached.”
