Oak Grove shooting case heading to grand jury

A Christian County grand jury will hear the case against an Oak Grove man accused of shooting a woman on Monday night of last week at the Hugh Hunter Hi Road gas station.

Kentucky State Police investigated and determined 22-year old Angela Perez of Clarksville and her significant other were at the Hi Road convenience store when 31-year old Evan Adams also pulled into the parking lot.

Detective Billy Over testified that Adams confronted Perez after seeing a vehicle he believed to be operated by her drive by his home in Oak Grove with its lights out.

Perez crashed into a barrier near the gas pumps during the confrontation and nearly struck Adams before being shot while trying to flee the parking lot.

Perez was able to keep driving and fled at a high rate of speed to the Fort Campbell Boulevard Papa Johns, where Oak Grove Police made contact with her and called for EMS. She was treated at Tennova Health Hospital and Assistant County Attorney Jill Atkins said surgery to remove the bullet from her body was performed earlier this week.

Detective Over disagreed with an assertion by defense attorney Michael Thompson that the shooting may have been in self-defense, alleging Adams fired into the rear of the car as Perez drove away.

The entire parking lot incident was captured on video surveillance, according to Detective Over, who charged Adams with first-degree assault.

District Judge Lindsey Adams sent the case to the grand jury for consideration and kept bond at $100,000, saying Evan Adams is a danger to himself and others.
