Public library now offering video games for check out

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is offering a new service to their patrons—the ability to check out video games.

According to a news release, the service launched on November 13 and interested parties can check out games for the Xbox One, the Xbox Series X, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, and the Nintendo Switch. Two games can be checked out at a time for two weeks and can be renewed once.

Youth Services Director Annis-Domenech says, “This was a service we’ve been wanting to provide for some time. It’s a new way to provide access to members of the community, and we hope that new people may discover the library with these resources, in addition to the other non-traditional items we check out, such as bikes and Wi-Fi hotspots.”

Studies have shown that video games can improve reasoning abilities and literacy, along with other cognitive functions, such as short-term memory and pattern recognition. This new collection can be found on the library’s first floor. For more information about available items and everything the library has to offer call 270-887-4262.
