Christian Fiscal Court pushing legislature to find funding for transportation projects

Christian Fiscal Court has again approved a resolution asking the Kentucky General Assembly to find ways to increase funding for transportation projects.

Judge-Executive Steve Tribble says how legislators increase the funding will be up to them, but many roadways continue to deteriorate without funding to properly address the needs. Magistrate Jerry Gilliam says the answer could be part of overall tax code reform utilizing a consumption-tax based system.

Transportation projects are currently funded by the tax paid at the pump on gasoline and many have called over the years for that rate to be increased.

Judge Tribble commended the Christian County Rescue Squad for their efforts to assist Cheatham County, Tennessee authorities locate a missing boy earlier this month, with Emergency Management Director Randy Graham saying the equipment they were able to take with them helped make the successful outcome possible.

Christian County Regional Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace gave the October report, noting 304 cats and dogs found forever homes.

The shelter is closed to foot traffic and is only taking in strays through animal control, but adoptions are continuing by appointment as photos of prospective pets are still being posted on the shelter’s Facebook page.

In other action, magistrates accepted a grant that will help with renovation of the tennis courts at Ruff Park.
