KHSAA Board votes to begin football playoffs, back up start date for winter sports

The KHSAA Board of Control met today to discuss scheduling of winter sports and the football playoffs and had a lengthy work session. When the Board held its regular meeting, the board voted to begin the KHSAA football playoffs this Friday with the week of the championships backed up until the week before Christmas.

In other action, the Board voted to back up the start of winter sports-which consist of basketball, wrestling and swimming among others-until January 4th.

The basketball season was set to begin next week, but it was something Commissioner Julian Tackett couldn’t see happening:

Basketball post season will begin with district tournaments the week of March 1st, regionals the week of March 8th and the state tournaments would be held the weeks of March 15th and March 22nd.

However, the KHSAA will hold a special meeting December 10th to discuss how to deal with the second state tournament week as there could be a conflict with Rupp Arena that could cause affects with the remainder of the sports calendar.
