Kentucky has another record week of new COVID cases

Kentucky again eclipsed another record for new COVID-19 cases in a week with another 1,449 reported Sunday by Governor Andy Beshear.

The positivity rate dropped slightly to 8.88 percent, there are currently 1,383 Kentuckians in the hospital with the virus, 330 are in the ICU and 156 patients are on a ventilator.

The governor also announced three more deaths, two Oldham County residents and a Fayette County woman. Kentucky’s pandemic death toll stands at 1,661.

In an email from the governor’s office, Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack reminds Kentuckians to watch their space, wear a mask and wash their hands.

All nine Pennyrile counties—including Christian, Todd and Trigg—remain red on the state incidence rate map.

Governor Beshear says, “Coronavirus is present in every corner of the commonwealth and it’s spreading at a truly alarming rate. This is not a drill; this is a health emergency that we all need to take seriously.”

Tennessee reported another spike in new cases at 5,816 and 16 additional deaths. The number of hospitalizations in Tennessee is up seven to 1,785, and the Volunteer State’s positivity rate is 12.37 percent.
