Gov. Beshear optimistic about vaccine, reports 1,745 new COVID-19 cases

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear showed optimism about a possible COVID-19 vaccine Monday as he reported 1,745 new cases of COVID-19.

Those new numbers raises the overall total up to 122,667 since the pandemic began in the Commonwealth, and the positivity rate remains slightly over seven percent at 7.49. In connection with the recent news that a COVID-19 vaccine is testing better, and faster, than expected, Governor Beshear says that’s excellent news that gives people some light at the end of a tunnel.

He says it comes down now to what people are willing to do to make sure people stay healthy and to limit the amount of people who die due to the coronavirus. Last week was the highest week so far for reported COVID-19 cases, and the governor says the numbers prove the spread of the virus is everywhere.

Eleven more Kentuckians have died, with that number up to 1,576. Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says the news about the vaccine is tremendous news, but it will stay take quite a bit of time for the vaccine to be distributed widely.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 5,919 new cases of COVID-19 there, along with 15 new deaths.  Montgomery County gained 107 new cases, Robertson County added 49 and Stewart County reported 15.
