A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to move north-south traffic on KY 139 in Trigg County to the new R-Cut at the U.S. 68 intersection starting on Thursday.
Officials say this permanent shift of north-south traffic to the R-Cut is planned for Thursday around 8 a.m., CST. Motorists should use caution and be alert for personnel along the roadway changing the work zone traffic configuration.
The R-Cut requires through traffic on KY 139 to make a right turn, then use a median turn lane to make a controlled U-turn before turning right to travel through the intersection. While negotiating the R-Cut adds a few extra seconds of travel time, it cuts the number of traffic conflict points in half. Studies of existing R-Cut installations show crash reductions of up to 54 percent.
Motorists traveling both U.S. 68 and KY 139 at the intersection south of Cadiz should be aware that this continues to be an active work zone with curb and gutter work in the median for the next couple of weeks.
The contractor will permanently close the median in the middle of the intersection to move north-south traffic on KY 139 to the R-Cut.
