COVID-19 continues to race through Kentucky, with Governor Andy Beshear announcing 1,032 new cases Monday, along with three new deaths.
He assured that we will get through this, but it’s going to take the cooperation and sacrifice of everyone until a vaccine can be distributed readily. Those new cases puts the overall total in the Commonwealth since the pandemic began at 109,670, and the positivity rate increased once more, now at 6.25 percent. The governor says the escalation continues to show itself, and the numbers across the nation are truly staggering.
Kentucky gained 11,700 COVID-19 cases last week alone, the single highest week of new cases reported. He says 68 red zone counties should now be following those recommendations set down recently, including reducing contacts between individuals as much as possible.
Tuesday is Election Day, and the Governor urged those who still have to return absentee ballots to do so by turning them into drop boxes instead of sending them in through the mail. He also urged everyone who will vote in-person to have a COVID-19 safe plan to do so.
The new deaths puts that total at 1,470 and includes a 59-year old health care worker from Whitley County. The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 3,161 new cases there, along with 26 new deaths—Montgomery County saw 40 new cases, Robertson County reported 17 and Stewart County gained two.
