Man severely injured in Russellville accident

An accident on US 68 Saturday morning in Russellville sent a man to a Nashville hospital with severe injuries.

Russellville police say it happened a few minutes after midnight between North Main Street and Terry Wilcutt Highway.

Investigation determined an SUV driven by James Carr was attempting to tow a red flatbed operated by Edward Alder onto the shoulder of the highway due to it being inoperable.

They were partially off the roadway when a pickup driven by Brian Taylor struck the rear of the flatbed, causing it to collide with the rear of the SUV.

The flatbed exited the roadway and came to rest against a rock embankment.

Alder was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Carr and Taylor did not require a trip to the hospital.
