Trial date vacated for retired HPD lieutenant in perjury case

Trial has been postponed again for retired Hopkinsville Police Lt. Jefferson Alexander.

Judge John Atkins signed an order Thursday saying all parties have agreed to vacate the November 20 trial date, as a new special prosecutor is being appointed to handle the case.

A pre-trial conference was scheduled for January 27 in Christian Circuit Court.

A grand jury indictment was returned in March of last year against Alexander for first-degree perjury. It stems from an FBI investigation which brought allegations that on August 17th, 2012, he gave false testimony on three occasions when he was the only sworn witness before a grand jury that indicted former Hopkinsville City Councilmember Ann Cherry on charges of tampering with a witness, tampering with public records, and second-degree official misconduct.
