Kentucky records record single-day total of new COVID-19 cases

Governor Andy Beshear announced a record one-day total of new COVID-19 cases in Kentucky Saturday.

He called the 1,738 new confirmed cases “frightening.”

Another eight Kentuckians have died, bringing that total to 1,404.

The state’s positivity rate is also rising and 840 Kentuckians who have the coronavirus are in a hospital.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says in a news release, “People are hurting, whether from the virus itself or the impact it has had on the rest of our lives. It’s all worse, though, when we don’t do simple things like wearing masks and socially distancing. As October comes to a close, please be kind to each other and remember that we help each other, and ourselves, when we focus on defeating the virus rather than arguing with each other.”

Governor Beshear says he will have new recommendations Monday for counties in the red on the state incidence rate map. Christian and Hopkins counties were red Saturday, but all surrounding counties have been red at times in recent days.

Tennessee gained 2,574 cases and 24 more deaths. There were 35 new cases in Montgomery County, 12 new in Robertson and Stewart County reported three new cases.
