Election Day is fast approaching, and the candidates running for the Hopkinsville City Council seat in Ward 10 met in debate recently.
Incumbent Democrat Jimmy Dossett is facing off against Republican Steve Keel—this will the second time the two have challenged each other in this race. At a League of Women Voter’s forum earlier in the month, Keel says he feels that the people of Hopkinsville face many different challenges, one of them being not having open communication with their council members.
Dossett says he’s focused on not raising taxes, which he considers one of the biggest challenges that city residents face at the moment.
On the subject of sidewalks and walking paths along Fort Campbell Boulevard, Dossett says it would be up to the state to head that project, as that’s not a city road. Keel says he would be in favor of working with the state to add sidewalks, as for many people that is their only mode of transportation.
While Election Day is November 3 and there will be seven polling locations open, early voting continues during the week and on Saturdays at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and the Senior Citizen’s Center on West Seventh Street.
