Dodgers rout Rays in Game One of World Series

Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger homered as the Los Angeles Dodgers pounded the Tampa Bay Rays 8-3 in Game One of the World Series in Arlington. Clayton Kershaw gave up just one run over six innings and struck out eight for Los Angeles. Tyler Glasnow gave up six runs over four and a third innings for the Rays. The Dodgers take a 1-0 series lead as Game Two is tonight.

Major League Baseball could see some of the temporary rule changes made during the shortened pandemic season become the new normal moving forward. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke yesterday before the start of Game One of the World Series and offered support for making two rule changes permanent.

Manfred said he liked the expanded playoff format from eight to 16 teams and the extra-innings rule that places a runner on second base to start each inning. Manfred also said MLB’s 30 teams would report a combined three-billion-dollars in operating losses this year due to the pandemic.
