Ward 12 Hopkinsville City Council candidates debate

The two candidates running for Hopkinsville City Council in Ward 12 recently debated in a League of Women Voters forum.

The Republican Matthew Handy is the youngest candidate in any city council race at 22 and Philip Brooks is a veteran member of council and said he has a record of fiscal responsibility and community leadership.

Asked about quality of life issues in Hopkinsville, Handy says he wants to engage the city’s youth and find ways to prop up struggling small businesses.

Councilman Brooks say promoting the creation of new jobs is a priority going forward and continuing with recreation efforts.

Both candidates agreed they’d support continued funding of the Inner City Rez program.
