Thanks to a partnership between the Hopkinsville-Christian County Library and the Friends of the Library group, the public library will now have internet hot spots that can be checked out.
According to a news release, the funding—donated by the Friends group—has provided the purchase of five mobile hot spots that will can be checked out by any patron, 18 years of age of older, with a library card in good standing. The program is designed for anyone but especially students attending virtual school. The opportunity to check-out a mobile hot spot from the library provides internet access where there may be none and allows users to see how well a hot spot works for them in their area before they make the decision to purchase their own.
Mobile hot spots act as a modem or router and can connect to a laptop, tablet, or other device just like you would connect to any other WIFI network.
Executive Director DeeAnna Sova thanked the Friends group for their generous donation and says, “We take for granted that everyone has internet access at their home. There are many individuals that cannot afford internet and areas of our community that do not have internet capability. These mobile hot spots will bridge the gap for individuals and families that need that connectivity now more than ever.”
